Trust. In the age of social media, the internet, and political strife, who can you trust? So much information floods into our lives, it is hard to know sometimes who is telling the truth and whose integrity we can rely upon. Even the facts of COVID-19 change so quickly that it’s hard to know if what you know is up to date!
Psalm 91 is a psalm of faith. It calls us to put our trust in God amidst the troubles of life. We can do so because God is holy and truthful and good, and he never changes. His love for the world endures forever and he promises to help those who love him. God calls all of us to entrust our lives to his divine care.
In this time of anxiety for our lives, our loved ones and our future, put your trust in God. He is a fortress, a strength, a shelter whose eternal being and existence is greater than the current crisis that we face. Trusting God is not a “fool’s bargain” as the faithless think, but the most reasonable act for your human soul. Who, after all, is more truthful, merciful, powerful and present than the God of all heaven and earth?
Christians can doubly trust in God because we have seen the mercy and power of his love at work in the life of Jesus Christ. In the mercy of God’s love, Jesus humbled himself to be God’s servant to humanity. In the power of God’s love, he bore our sins on the cross and died that we might be reconciled to God forever. We know, in Jesus, that God’s love for humanity has been clearly revealed for all to see. So, in the name of Jesus, we are privileged to “shelter in the Most High”, rest our souls in him, and offer our prayers with confidence.
When trouble lands, faith soars. Help us all, heavenly Father, to put our trust in you!
